Additionally, Pitt State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Johnson accepted the 2022-23 Commissioner's Cup from representatives from title sponsor McCownGordon Construction. This is the Gorillas' second consecutive Commissioner's Cup victory.
The Commissioner's Cup presented by McCownGordon Construction is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the association's top-performing school in conference play and is based on a point system, reflecting the finish of each team in conference play.
The Gorillas collected five MIAA championships in the 2022-23 academic year – football, women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track & field, and men's outdoor track & field. The women's track & field team also earned a runner-up finish at the outdoor championships.
Either Pitt State or the University of Central Missouri has won every MIAA Commissioner's Cup since the award's inception during the 2016-17 academic year. The Gorillas also claimed the MIAA Commissioner's Cup in 2018-19. The MIAA previously awarded the All-Sports Trophy for five years between the 1998-99 academic year and the 2002-03 academic year.
