Pittsburg State Gorillas Claim Fifth Straight MIAA Commissioner's Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released its final standings for the 2025-2026 Commissioner's Cup, presented by Impact Signs. Pitt State teams collected eight MIAA championships and averaged 11.67 points per sport to claim its fifth consecutive all-sports trophy. Washburn was the runner-up in the Commissioner's Cup standings for the second straight year.

The MIAA Commissioner's Cup, presented by Impact Signs, is the Association's all-sports trophy awarded to the league's top-performing institution at the end of each academic year. Points are awarded based on a team's finish in the MIAA's regular season competition. The number of points awarded per sport is based on the number of schools sponsoring that sport and each institution's grand point total is then divided by the athletic programs it sponsors, giving an overall average finish for the school.

"Congratulations to Pittsburg State University's student-athletes, coaches, and administrators on winning yet another Commissioner's Cup," said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. "And a special thanks to our Commissioner's Cup sponsor Impact Signs for their continued support of MIAA athletics!"

"The MIAA has a rich history of nationally ranked programs with the expectation of athletic excellence every year. The Commissioner's Cup is the Association's highest recognition of the athletics excellence exhibited by programs in MIAA-sponsored championship sports."

The 2025-26 MIAA Commissioner's Cup is the Gorillas' fifth consecutive all-sports trophy and the university's sixth overall. Pitt State leads all MIAA member institutions with six Commissioner's Cups. Central Missouri ranks second in the MIAA with four all-sports trophies.

Pitt State collected eight MIAA championships and averaged 11.67 points per sport in the 2025-26 academic year while competing in 14 of the Association's 19 contributing sports. The Gorillas' track and field programs once again were the highlight of the year after sweeping the league's men's and women's indoor and outdoor championships for the third straight year. Pitt State claimed three MIAA titles in the fall with Gorilla football crowned MIAA co-champions and Pitt State women winning MIAA titles in soccer and cross country. Gorillas baseball secured its first-ever regular season championship for the university's eighth MIAA title of the year.

Washburn finished as the runner-up in the Commissioner's Cup standings for the second consecutive year. The Ichabods averaged 10.70 points per sport and won four MIAA championships in men's basketball, men's tennis, volleyball (co-champions) and women's tennis (co-champions). Washburn was also the runner-up of the women's soccer and women's golf seasons.

Northwest Missouri finished third in the 2025-26 standings with an average of 10.31 points per sport, followed by Central Missouri in fourth with 9.75 points per sport, and Missouri Southern finished fifth with 8.63 points per sport.
