Lady Lions Down No. 16 Gorillas, 71-65

PITTSBURG — Reese Webb led three Missouri Southern State University women's basketball players in double figures as the Lady Lions defeated No. 16 Pittsburg State University, 71-65, Saturday (Jan. 6).

MSSU (9-4, 5-2) trailed just four minutes of clock time in the contest, leading by as many as nine points early in the second quarter.

Pitt State (11-2, 5-2 MIAA) trailed by just two points, 61-59, on Grace Pyle's driving layup with 1:40 to play in the game, but the Lady Lions outscored the Gorillas, 10-4, down the stretch to thwart Pitt State's comeback bid in front of 2,886 fans at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Pyle paced the Gorillas with 18 points, while Karenna Gerber finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Harper Schreiner chipped in with nine points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Webb had a team-leading 15 points for MSSU, while Brandi Hudson (14) and Ryan Franklin (12) also finished in double figures.

The Gorillas will return to action Thursday (Jan. 11) by hosting the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
