Pitt State to Conduct Field Dedication Prior to Friday Soccer Match

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University officials will conduct a field presentation ceremony for the Gorillas Soccer Pitch prior to Friday's (Oct. 18) 2 p.m. home match-up against Newman University.

Pittsburg State University ushered in the first year of women's soccer on campus with the start of the 2024 season in August. It marked the school's first women's intercollegiate sport addition since 1986, bringing nearly 40 new student-athletes to campus.

Mammoth Sports Construction partnered with Pittsburg State to design and construct the soccer pitch over the summer. Following phases of construction will include the construction of permanent seating, a press box, restrooms, fencing, lights and additional practice fields.

The Gorillas played their first home match at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Sept. 12 with Pitt State scoring a 1-0 win over East Central University in its inaugural game. The Gorillas (5-5-2, 1-3-2 MIAA) are 1-1-1 at home this season entering Friday's MIAA match-up against the Jets (0-11-1, 0-6-0 MIAA).

Following the match, Pitt State players and coaches will sign autographs for fans on the pitch.
