Gorillas Roll to 3-0 Win Over Jets Friday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals 65 seconds apart to take control in the first half and ultimately claim a 3-0 victory over Newman University at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch Friday (Oct. 18).

Jayden Newell kicked the Gorillas (6-5-2, 2-3-2 MIAA) to a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute off a pass from Avianna Gonzalez; and, just over a minute later, Newman's Trinity Perry fouled Pitt State's Dallie Hill inside the 18-foot box to set up Hill's penalty kick for a 2-0 advantage.

The Gorillas added a final goal from Hanna Carlisle in the 58th minute and Pitt State's Jocelyn Kramar saved all five Newman shots on goal in 90 minutes in net to preserve the shutout.

The Gorillas got off 21 shots in the match, including eight shots on goal, while limiting the winless Jets (0-12-1, 0-7-0 MIAA) to just eight shots (five on goal). Pitt State registered its fourth shutout among its six victories on the season.

The Gorillas will sit idle the remainder of the weekend. The Gorillas return to action next Friday (Oct. 25) with a key road match against unbeaten MIAA leader Missouri Western State University, the No. 20 ranked team in NCAA Division II.
