PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team fell in a tightly contested 1-0 conference match on Friday (Nov. 1) against the University of Central Oklahoma at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
After holding each other in check in the first half the Bronchos (9-5-3, 6-2-3 MIAA) scored in the 54th minute from an inside the 18-yard box far post shot by Becca Tweedy as Emma Nicholas picked up the assist.
Not going away quietly the Gorillas (7-7-2, 3-5-2 MIAA) in the 60th minute also tied it up on a left footed
Carrie Cunningham (Olathe, Kan.) shot that went off the crossbar after a finger tip save by UCO's Avery Bass. Pitt State wasn't done threatening with the best chance late in the match falling to
Avianna Gonzalez (Papillion, Neb.) with her inside the six-yard box shot being saved by Bass in the 80th minute.
For the game,
Jocelyn Kramar (Fort Collins, Colo.) tied her season-high with eight saves in 90 minutes of action between the sticks. Seniors
Hanna Carlisle (Layton, Utah) and
McKenna Robinson (Butler, Pa.) each fired three shots and were two of the seven Gorillas that finished with a shot on goal.
Up next for the Gorillas is the University of Central Missouri Jennies on Sunday (Nov. 3) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch with kickoff set for Noon.
