Gorillas Fall to Bulldogs in Season Opener Saturday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Kenzie Bowers paced four Ferris State University players in double figures with 19 points as the Bulldogs posted a 74-64 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Nov. 2) in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic.

Bowers made six of 11 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, to lead all scorers. Kadyn Blanchard added 17 points and a team-leading nine rebounds for the No. 15 ranked Bulldogs. Mia Riley (13) and Mya Hiram (10) also finished in double figures for FSU.

Karenna Gerber led the No. 13 ranked Gorillas with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Macie Mays added 11 points for Pitt State, which shot 36.4 percent from the field for the game (24-66). Gerber registered a program record setting 22nd double-double of her career in the contest.

Pitt State will return to action at 11:30 a.m. Sunday against Southern Nazarene University in day two action of the elite tournament. SNU posted a three-point win, 68-65, over the University of Central Missouri Saturday.
