ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Transfer senior guard
Hannah Nilges knocked down her first six 3-point field goal attempts en route to a 20-point scoring output to lead the Pittsburg State University women's basektball team to a 75-57 victory over Southern Nazarene University Sunday (Nov. 3).
The victory helped the Gorillas (1-1), the No. 13 team in the preseason WBCA/NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, split a pair of games in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the St. Joseph Civic Center. Pitt State dropped a season-opening 74-64 decision to No. 15 Ferris State University Saturday.
Nilges made seven of 11 shots from the floor over, including six of eight attemtps from long range, to pace Pitt State with 20 points.
Karenna Gerber added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while
Macie Mays,
Sydney Holmes and
Grace Pyle each contributed eight points.
The Gorillas shot 50.9 percent from the field (27-53) in the game, including 11 of 19 (.579) shooting from 3-point range.
Hannah Giddey scored a team-leading 18 points for No. 22 ranked SNU (1-1).
Pitt State will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to take part in the MIAA/NSIC Challenge Nov. 8-9.
