PITTSBURG --
Karenna Gerber and
Grace Pyle scored 24 points apiece to lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to an 88-72 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University Thursday (Nov. 21) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The No. 13 ranked Gorillas (5-1) posted their fifth consecutive win on the strength of 52.7 percent shooting from the field (29-55). Pyle made a team-leading six 3-pointers in the contest and added four assists and four blocked shots. Gerber made eight of nine shots from the floor and chipped in six rebounds and three blocked shots despite playing just 20 minutes due to foul trouble.
Pitt State built a 16-point advantage - 50-34 on a 3-pointer by Pyle - early in the third quarter. NWOSUÂ (2-2) outscored the Gorillas, 18-7, over a seven minute stretch of the third period to trim the margin to 57-52 on a pair of free throws by Isabella Pehrson. The Rangers got as close as four points, 61-57, on Carly Craig's 3-pointer with 9:17 to play in the game, but the Gorillas responded with an 8-0 run to take control.
Macie Mays added 17 points for Pitt State and
Maycee James filled the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds and six steals.
Summya Adigun paced the Rangers with 15 points, while Payton Jones (11), Camille Thomas (10) and Kira Bass (10) also scored in double figures.
Pitt State will return to action next Wednesday (Nov. 27) by hosting Arkansas Tech University.
