PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University freshman
Lily Brown made a strong collegiate debut in the Boo Rogers Combined Events Friday (Dec. 6), placing third overall in the pentathlon at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Brown compiled 3608 points between the five disciplines of the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters. She placed first overall in the field of 18 competitors in the high jump (5-6.5) and finished second in the shot put (37-9.25) and long jump (18-1). Brown led the competition through four events before turning in a 12th place time of 2:40.54 in the 800m. She surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the pentathlon; and she also picked up a PQ mark in the high jump.
Freshman
Maggie Salsbury also enjoyed a solid Pitt State debut by placing fifth overall with 3450 points. She placed fourth in her best event, the high jump (5-4.25). Salsbury also surpassed the NCAA provisional standard in the pentathlon.
Valerie Olson of Oklahoma Baptist won the pentathlon with 3690 points,k while Miranda Burgett of Arkansas State finished second with 3672 points.
Pitt State's
Doug Brown finished day one action of the heptathlon in fourth place with 3008 points. Colby Eddowes of Arkansas State leads the heptathlon with 3281 points.
Brown finished third in the high jump (6-6.75) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.07).
Day two action of the heptathlon begins at 9 a.m. Saturday prior to the start of the Crimson & Gold Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
