PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State Univesity men's indoor track & field team secured four individual event victories and several strong marks in the season opening Crimson & Gold Invitational Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Gorillas picked up individual event wins by
Jack Haukap in the weight throw (60-0, PQ);
Nate Watson in the 300 meters (33.62);
Braden Zaner in the 3,000 meters (8:25.97); and the 4x400m relay of
Woyn Chatman,
Amar Williams, Watson and
Caden Williams (3:10.23, PQ).
Zaner added a second-place showing in the 5,000m (14:35.85) Friday night, while newcomer
Nolton Shelvin placed second in the 300m (33.82).
Britton Gage placed third in the pole vault (16-3.75, PQ) and
Caden Williams finished third in the 300m (33.85).
Tre Betts placed fourth in the long jump (24-0.5, PQ) and
Eli Gilmore finished fourth in the 800 meters (1:52.23, PQ). Freshman
Tyrone Jackson clocked a PQ time of 8.00 in the 60m hurdles in his Pitt State debut, while newcomer
Drake Stapleton secured a PQ mark in the shot put (54-8.25) in his initial collegiate competition.
Mason Strader also broke his own school record in the 3,000 meters Friday at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. He was clocked in a fast time of 7:54.43 in the discipline.
Dylan Sprecker also registered a PR time of 8:15.53 in the 3,000m at Boston, the fifth-fastest time in Pitt State history.
