CLAREMORE, Okla. -The eighth ranked Pittsburg State University women's basketball team ended the weekend with a 79-58 win on the road against Rogers State University Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Claremore Expo Center.
For the Gorillas (8-1, 2-0 MIAA), Macie Mays finished with a team-high 19 points shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point attempts. Karenna Gerber (16), Savannah Campbell (12) and Grace Pyle (10) also scored in double figures.
Harper Schreiner came away with a game-high six steals and four assists, while Maycee James contributed eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
As a team, PSU shot .484 from the field (30-of-62) with 50 points in the paint, 24 points off turnovers and 12 second chance points.
Rogers State (4-5, 0-2 MIAA) was led by a trio of Ella Hafer, Bailey Layman and Emma Kay Martin with nine points each.
Pitt State claimed a 43-30 lead heading into the half after shooting .545 from the field (18-of-33) with 32 points in the paint and eight second chance points. RSU got it to within five (57-52) with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, but a 14-3 run by the Gorillas stymied the potential upset bid for the Hillcats.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Kid's Day game against the University of Science & Arts (Okla.) on Tuesday (Dec. 10) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court, with tipoff slated for 11:30 a.m. (CST).
