EDMOND, Okla. - The Pittsburg State women's basketball program beat the University of Central Oklahoma 77-57 today (Feb. 1) inside the Hamilton Field House as Karenna Gerber scored her 1000th career point.
As a team Pittsburg State (15-5, 9-5 MIAA) shot 47.3 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from three with 30 bench points as well as advantages in rebounds, assists, fast break points, points off turnovers and points in the paint.
Grace Pyle (McPherson, Kan.) led the team with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists while going 5-of-7 from three. Gerber (Halstead, Kan.) finished with 20 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Jenna Shipley (Adrian, Mo.) and Alba Lozano (Leganes, Spain) led the bench unit with seven points each with Lozano dishing out a career-high five rebounds.
Central Oklahoma (5-15, 4-10 MIAA) was led by Reagan Fox with 13 points as Alena Wilson and Karly Wadsworth finished with 12 points each.
Up next for the Gorillas is the Newman Jets on Saturday (Feb. 3) from Fugate Gymnasium at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
Note: Karenna Gerber became the 25th student-athlete in program history to score 1,000 career points and is currently 24th passing Katie Spieker (2000-04).
