Gorillas Sweep Doubleheader From Rangers

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team swept a pair of games against Regis University Saturday (Feb. 10) at Al Ortolani Field. The Gorillas defeated the Rangers 8-0 and 2-1.

Tanner Leslie and relievers Gage Singer and Ryker Curry combined on a six-hit shutout in game one against Regis. Leslie (2-0) limited the Rangers to four hits in 5.0 innings of work. He registered a pair of strikeouts.

Austin Warkins, Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo and Hayden Dyer each collected three hits, while Blake Mozely and Nixon Brannan both drove in a pair of runs.

In game two, Dyer drew a bases loaded walk to force in pinch runner Brevon Lee with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the scheduled seven-inning contest.

Connor Laux drew a one-out hit to start the rally. Lee entered the game and stole second base. Regis reliever Lucas Watson (0-1) then hit Warkins and walked Foo and Dyer to give the Gorillas the victory.

Pitt State starter Alex Kafka limited the Rangers to one run and two hits in 5.0 innings of work. Cadyn Castellanos (2-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn his second win of the season.

The Gorillas and Rangers will wrap up the four-game series with a 10 a.m. (CST) game Sunday.
