PITTSBURG -- Starter Brett Wiemers and three Pittsburg State University relievers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Gorillas blanked Regis University, 1-0, Sunday (Feb. 11) in the series finale.
Cade Clemons singled home Austin Warkins with the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the first inning on a cold morning at Al Ortolani Field. Warkins reached on an error earlier in the frame.
Wiemers scattered four hits in 3.0 scoreless innings of work. Boston Dowd (1-0) limited the Rangers (3-4-1) to one hits in 4.0 effective innings of relief to earn the victory. Cole Askew threw a clean inning in the eighth and Andrew Wisner earned the save by working around a walk and a hit in the ninth inning.
Pitt State improved to 6-2 on the season with the victory. The Gorillas posted 8-0 and 2-1 wins over Regis Saturday after dropping the series opener, 5-4, Friday afternoon.
The Gorillas will travel to Russellville, Ark., for a 1 p.m. (CST) contest against Arkansas Tech University Tuesday (Feb. 13).
