Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Pittsburg State softball team came away with a two-game split in the final day of the UCO/OC Classic, beating No. 16 Oklahoma Christian (5-4) and losing to Southern Nazarene (4-1) today (Feb. 10).
Pitt State (9-1) began the day against the Crimson Storm with a Maddie Fernandez RBI single in the first before SNU (4-4) responded in the bottom half of the inning and scored three runs in the fifth to claim the win. Kendall Forbes led the team with two hits while Heather Arnett and Hannah Burnett reached base twice.
To close out the tournament the Gorillas utilized a three-run fourth inning to spark the 5-4 victory over the 16th-ranked OC (3-4) Eagles. Arnett finished with three hits and two runs scored from the leadoff spot as Burnett collected three RBIs off her second inside-the-park home run of the season. Kiana Pogroszewski picked up her fourth win of the season and Ava Laurent her first collegiate save.
Up next for Pittsburg State is the Washburn invitational (Feb. 23-25) at the Lake Shawnee Softball Complex in Topeka, Kan.
