TOPEKA, Kan. - The Pittsburg State softball team split their two games of the day at the Lake Shawnee Softball Complex (Feb. 23) to begin the Washburn Invitational.
Pitt State (10-2) beat Minot State (5-5) in the first game of the day, 7-2 behind two record-breaking performances. Ava Laurent (Grand Island, Neb.) set the freshman record for strikeouts with 15 in seven innings, issuing out no walks for her third win of the season. Heather Arnett (Pittsburg, Kan.) went 3-for-4, scoring twice and setting the stolen base record in a game with four swiped bags.
In game two, Augustana (S.D.) (5-5) claimed a 6-0 victory behind a complete game shutout from the 2022 Summit League Pitcher of the Year Grace Glanzer. Arnett and Maddie Fernandez (San Antonio, Texas) recorded hits for the Gorillas while as a pitching staff struck out six Vikings.
Tomorrow (Feb. 23), Pittsburg State will begin the day against St. Cloud State at noon from Lake Shawnee Field Two and end the day against Sioux Falls at 2:00 p.m.(CST) at Field Two.
Note: Heather Arnett is now tied for fifth in career stolen bases at Pittsburg State tying Gregan Ketcham (2003-06) with 42.
