PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will make its home debut this week with doubleheaders against Delta State University Wednesday (Feb. 28) and Truman State University Sunday (Mar. 3).
The No. 18 ranked Gorillas will battled the Lady Statesmen beginning at 1 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, while Sunday's action against the Bulldogs is slated for Noon at the PSU Softball Complex.
Pitt State is 14-2 on the season. The Gorillas are off to their best start to a campaign through 16 games since 1995. Pitt State is coming off a 5-1 weekend at the Washburn University Invitational.
Sophomore outfielder Heather Arnett is leading the charge offensively with a .593 average, 35 hits, 25 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. Graduate infielder Hannah Burnett (.426), junior outfielder Courtney Storey (.386), senior infielder Maddie Fernandez (.375) and senior utility player Paxtyn Hayes (.238) each have eclipsed 10 RBI on the season. Burnett, Fernandez and Hayes also has each hit at least two home runs to date.
In the circle, freshman Ava Laurent (5-0, 1.76 ERA, 4 CG) is undefeated and has registered 58 strikeouts in 43.2 innings of work while limiting opposing batters to a .203 average. Redshirt senior Kiana Pogroszewski (5-1, 2.06 ERA, 3 CG) has struck out 25 batters in 34.0 innings with opponents hitting .277. Junior Bree Sexton (1-1, 2.10 ERA), Junior Chelsea Beville (1-0, 2.25 ERA) and senior Hannah Martin (2-0, 2.52 ERA) round out the pitching staff.

th in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Poll, the Lady Statesmen are 2-12 heading into the week's action. Raegan Stafford leads the team with a .381 average and five stolen bases with MyCala Helms the other qualified hitter batting above .300 at .308 with two home runs and seven RBI so far. In the circle, Yazmin Jackson (0-3, 6.00 ERA), Morgan Grubb (1-4, 6.33 ERA), Audry Rumsey (1-2, 6.54 ERA) and Emma Enderud (0-3, 8.95 ERA) are able to start of pitch in relief for DSU.
Truman State University Bulldogs

th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the Bulldogs are off to a 7-9 start to the season heading into the week. Emily Wood leads the team with a .407 batting average and three home runs. Charlotte Chellich (.390), Cassie Smith (.373), Cali Coombs (.371), Cameryn Patterson (.365) and Nina Fenasci (.333) round out the qualified hitters batting above .300. In the circle, Kaylyn Jones (3-1, 3.85 ERA), Madie Anderson (2-3, 5.82 ERA) and Charlotte Chelich (1-3, 9.10 ERA) are the go-to options either as a starter or reliever for the Bulldogs.
Following this week's home action, the Gorillas will travel to Russellville, Ark., for a twinbill against Arkansas Tech University next Tuesday (Mar. 5) before returning home to open MIAA play next Friday and Saturday (Mar. 8-9) against Central Missouri and Lincoln.
