EDMOND, Okla. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team pounded out four home runs among its 14-hit attack as the Gorillas claimed an 11-2 victory over New Mexico Highlands University Saturday (Feb. 3).
Pitt State (2-1) capitalized on a four-run fourth inning and a six-run seventh frame to build a sizable cushion against the Cowboys.
Karson Coffee and Josh Holmes each smacked two-run home runs in the Gorillas fourth frame, helping stake Pitt State to a 4-1 lead. Cade Clemons hit a solo home run to start the Gorillas' seventh inning. Joe Hamilton added a three-run triple and Austin Warkins tacked on a two-run blast.
Tanner Leslie (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits in 5.0 innings pitched. He issued no walks and fanned five batters. Parker Weddle, Boston Dowd, Gage Singer and Brett Wiemers all tossed hitless innings in relief. Dowd struck out the side in the seventh inning.
Pitt State will close out the four-day action in the UCO Fast Pitch Classic with a 2 p.m. (CST) contest against East Central University Sunday (Feb. 4).
