CONROE, Texas -- The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up wins over Texas Woman's University and Cal Poly University Humboldt Saturday (Feb. 3) at the D2 First Pitch Invitational.
Game one against TWU (1-3) needed eight innings to be decided 5-4 by a two-out pinch-hit two-run home run by Sydney Sneed. Chelsea Beville finished with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings, Ava Laurent struck out six in 5.1 innings and Hannah Martin picked up her first win of the season after 0.2 innings of work.
In game two Pittsburg State (4-0) silenced Cal Poly Humboldt (2-2) behind a complete-game 3-0 shutout from Kiana Pogroszewki for her second win in as many days. Hannah Burnett went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. Heather Arnett collected three hits and scored a run.
Head coach Jenny Fuller secured her 200th career victory with the win over Cal Poly Humboldt. This is the second time in her three-year tenure at Pitt State that the Gorillas have opened a season 4-0. She now has a 200-163 (.551) record in eight seasons as a collegiate head coach, including stints at Northern State (S.D.), Cardinal Stritch and UT-Dallas.
Up next, Pitt State will wrap up D2 First Pitch Invitational action with a 12:15 p.m. (CST) match-up against Saint Martin's and a 2:30 p.m. contest against St. Edward's.
