Softball 8-0 After the First Day of the UCO/OC Classic

EDMOND, Okla - The Pittsburg State softball team kept red hot with wins over No. 22 Oklahoma Baptist (6-4) and a run-rule victory against Maryville (15-2) at Gerry Pinkston Stadium (Feb. 9).

Pitt State (8-0) scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to snatch a comeback win against the ranked Bison in game one. Hannah Burnett, Courtney Storey and Paxtyn Hayes collected two RBIs each while Ava Laurent struck out six in the no-decision and Hannah Martin picked up her second win of the season.

In game two the Gorillas scored nine runs in the second inning to blow open the game against the Saints. Heather Arnett led the way with three RBIs, three runs, three hits and two stolen bases. Kiana Pogroszewski won her third game of the season with two strikeouts in four innings as Chelsea Beville struck out two in her lone inning. 

Day two of the UCO/OC Classic (Feb. 10) will pit the Gorillas against Southern Nazarene at 11:00 a.m. (CST) from Gerry Pinkston Stadium and No. 16 Oklahoma Christian at 3:30 p.m. from Tom Heath Field. 

Note: Heather Arnett is now ninth in career stolen bases at Pittsburg State with 37 passing A.J. Miller (2002-05), Kim Erickson (1990-93), Joy Rishel (1994), Carol Kremer (1998-01) and Ashley Loncarich (2003-06) today.
