13th Ranked Pitt State Pushes Winning Streak To 18 Following Second Day of MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge

PITTSBURG - The 13th ranked Pittsburg State softball team picked up one run wins (4-3, 6-5) over Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday (Mar. 16) at the PSU Softball Complex to extend their program record winning streak to 18 games.

In the first game against Augustana (13-12), the Gorillas (28-2) were led by Amaya Snyder with two RBI on offense as Kaydn Trochim and Hannah Burnett also picked up an RBI. Ava Laurent got the no-decision after striking out five in as many innings, with Chelsea Beville earning the win after two innings of shutout relief work.

Game two would need eight innings to be decided after an RBI single through the right side in the seventh by Trochim tied it up 4-4. Augie scored in the top half of the eighth and in turn the Gorillas quickly scored off a fielding error to tie it up 5-5 with no outs. Following a walk to load the bases, the Vikings got two outs quickly before an obstruction call at the plate dramatically scored the winning run for the Gorillas. Beville won her fourth in as many appearances this weekend after 3.1 innings of relief.

Up next for the Gorillas is Concordia - St. Paul in a doubleheader to close out the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge at the PSU Softball Complex beginning at 1:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday (Mar. 17).
