Gorillas First NCAA Team to Reach 30 Wins in 2024

Pitt State Softball Climbs to No. 11 in NFCA Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Pittsburg State University softball team, the first NCAA squad to reach 30 wins during the 2024 campaign, climbed two spots to No. 11 in the most recent NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll released Tuesday (Mar. 19). The Gorillas posted six wins last weekend by sweeping their slate of games in the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge at the PSU Softball Complex to move from No. 13 to No. 11 in the national poll and reach the 30-win plateau. North Georgia (28-3), West Texas A&M (27-3), Lenoir-Rhyne (27-5) and Wingate (27-6) rank just behind Pitt State among the D2 membership in victories. Oklahoma leads the Division I ranks with 27 wins (27-1). Pitt State also currently owns the nation's longest winning streak as the Gorillas have reeled off 20 consecutive victories since dropping a 6-0 decision to Augustana (S.D.) on Feb. 23 in the Washburn Invitational at Topeka. Pitt State avenged that loss with a pair of one-run victories over Augie (4-3 & 6-5) last Saturday (Mar. 16). The Gorillas will travel to Tahlequah, Okla., Friday (Mar. 22) to face Northeastern State in an MIAA doubleheader.
