Pitt State Squads to Open Outdoor Season Friday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will make their 2024 outdoor season debuts at the Fort Hays State University Invitational Friday (Mar. 22) and the University of Mississippi "Ole Miss" Classic Friday and Saturday (Mar. 22-23).

Field events begin at Noon (CDT) Friday at Lewis Field Stadium at Hays, Kan. The two-day Ole Miss Classic also gets under way at Noon Friday at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex at Oxford, Miss.

The Pitt State men's team captured the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship two weeks ago at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, while the Pitt State women's team finished as the National Runner-Up in the team standings. Both Gorillas squads captured MIAA titles during the 2024 indoor season. The Pitt State men are the defending NCAA Division II Outdoor National Champions from 2023 as well.

A handful of Pitt State distance runners competed at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational at Pueblo, Colo., last weekend. For the men, Dylan Sprecker (3:52.05) and Mason Strader (3:52.15) picked up NCAA qualifying marks in the 1,500 meters. Kate Dawson also scored an NCAA qualifying mark in the women's 800 meters (2:12.00) at the meet.
