Calvin, Gaines Post Nation's Top Marks

HAYS, Kan. -- Caleb Calvin posted the top mark in NCAA Division II men's outdoor track & field this season in the javelin throw Friday (Mar. 22) at the Fort Hays State University Invitational, while Diandrenique Gaines was clocked in a D2 leading time in the women's 200 meters at the Ole  Miss Classic.

Calvin won the javelin with a personal best toss of 243 feet, 0 inches to highlight the Gorillas efforts in western Kansas. His mark ranks 12th best all-time in Division II history. Jack Haukup also placed second in the men's hammer throw with a best mark of 190-1, currently the No. 6 mark in Division II this year. Cole Sample added a third-place finish in the men's shot put (54-6.5).

Addie Hinterweger placed second in the women's discus throw (140-5) and fourth in the hammer throw (163-1). Abby Lasiter added a second-place showing in the women's hammer (175-0), registering the No. 5 mark in D2 to date. Shelby Sogaard (147-4, PR) and Olivia Vanderweide (144-1, PR) finished second and third, respectively, in the women's javelin. Sogaard's mark currently ranked fifth in Division II.

In Oxford, Miss., Gaines posted the fourth fastest time in Pitt State history in winning the women's 200 meters, crossing the finish line in 23.69. Taniya Looney placed second in 24.44. Makayla Watson also finished second in the women's long jump (19-1.25).

For the Pitt State men, Dapriest Hogans placed second (21.33) and Dre'shaun Sanders finished fifth (21.50) in the 200m, while Jaylynn Ellerbe-Cundiff placed fourth in the long jump (23-2).

The Ole Miss Classic wraps up with day two action Saturday (Mar. 23).
