OXFORD,Miss. — Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes wrapped up day two action of the Ole Miss Classic Saturday (Mar. 23).
The Pitt State women claimed four individual event victories in the sprints. Diandrenique Gaines won the 100 meters in 11.51 seconds, posting the second-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season and the fourth-fastest time in Pitt State history. Mikah Edwards won the 400 meters in 55.46, also the No. 2 mark in D2 to date.
The women's 400m relay of Jamiya Morgan, Taniya Looney, Siby Yao and Gaines posted a winning time of 45.95, while the 1,600m relay of Morgan, Kinleigh Hall, Yasmine Johnson and Edwards also claimed victory (3:46.31).
Erica Schamel also picked up where she left off from the indoor season. Schamel, who captured the D2 indoor national championship in the high jump earlier this month, broke the Pitt State outdoor record with her clearance of 5-10.5 in the discipline. She currently leads D2 with that mark. Haleigh Hadley also posted a best mark of 5-7 in the high jump Saturday.
The Pitt State men picked up a pair of relay wins as well as a victory by Dapriest Hogans in the 100m (10.39). The 400m relay of Dakari Charlton, Dre'shaun Saunders, Hogans and Xavier Carmichael won in 40.88, while the 1,600m relay of Nate Watson, Caden Williams, Woyn Chatman and Sam Tudor won in 3:10.79.
Tudor also placed second in the 400 meters (47.53), while Chatman finished third in 47.70. Carmichael added a second-place effort of 10.44 in the 100m.
