RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The 16th ranked Pittsburg State softball team swept the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns, Tuesday (Mar. 5) in a twin bill from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
Pittsburg State (20-2) used some late inning hitting to secure a 5-0 game one win over Arkansas Tech (11-7). senior Gabby Schultz (Gardner, Kan.) led the team with two RBI and two hits while senior Kadyn Trochim (Waco, Texas) also finished with two hits. Freshman Ava Laurent (Grand Island, Neb.) picked up her seventh win of the season, striking out 10 in a complete game shutout.
Game two was a 7-5 win for the Gorillas to notch the tenth straight win. Senior Hannah Burnett (Independence, Kan.) hit her third home run of the season and collected a team leading four RBI, senior Paxtyn Hayes (Greenwood, Ark.) collected two RBI in the win as well. Senior Hannah Martin (Moore, Okla.) picked up her fifth win of the season after 3.1 innings of relief work and struck out four batters. Junior Chelsea Beville notched her first save this season with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Pitt State will begin MIAA play later this week with doubleheaders against Central Missouri (Mar. 9) Saturday and Lincoln (Mar. 10) Sunday from the Pittsburg State Softball Complex at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
