PITTSBURG - The 16th ranked Pittsburg State softball team swept the University of Central Missouri to begin conference play on Saturday (Mar. 9) at the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex.
Game one was a 4-2 win for Pittsburg State (22-2, 2-0 MIAA). Ava Laurent led the way with a 14-strikeout performance in her eighth win of the season. Amaya Snyder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Gabby Schultz (Gardner, Kan.) each collected an RBI.
Game two was a 10-4 victory for the Gorillas. Central Missouri (6-9, 0-2 MIAA) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but a seven-run third inning for Pitt State propelled the hosts to the win. Paxtyn Hayes (Greenwood, Ark.) launched two home runs and finished with a game-high five RBI. Chelsea Beville (Seneca, Mo.) picked up the win following 4.1 relief innings, striking out eight for her second victory of the season.
