Pitt State Announces 2025 Football Schedule

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University football team will open its 2025 football season Thursday, Aug. 28, against defending national champion Ferris State University at Big Rapids, Mich.

The school released its 2025 schedule today (Jan. 13) following the MIAA's announcement of the 2025 conference slate of games last week.

The Gorillas home action features a marquee non-conference match-up against Grand Valley State University on Sept. 13. Pitt State also will play host to MIAA rival Fort Hays State University for Family Day the next week on Sept. 20. Both of those contests will feature 4 p.m. start times.

The Gorillas also will host the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 4; Washburn University for Homecoming on Oct. 11; Missouri Southern State University for the Hall of Fame Game on Nov. 1; and Northwest Missouri State University for the Operation Gameday/Senior Day game on Nov. 15. Pitt State's 11-game schedule will feature an Open Date on Oct. 25. The Gorillas final four home games all will kickoff at 2 p.m.

"We are excited to release our 2025 football schedule," PSU Athletics Director Jim Johnson said. "Road game kickoff times are still TBA and we'll update those times as our opponents release that information. The Gorillas always embrace tough competition. The non-conference match-ups against Ferris State and Grand Valley State, coupled with all the great MIAA foes, will give us one of the marquee schedules, start to finish, in NCAA Division II this fall."

Pitt State posted an 8-3 record under first-year head coach Tom Anthony in 2024. The Gorillas, who captured back-to-back MIAA titles in 2022-23, made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Division II national playoffs last fall.
