TOPEKA -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field athletes posted strong marks at the Washburn University Rust Buster Meet Friday (Jan. 17), the Gorillas first action since the season-opening meet Dec. 7.
The Pitt State men picked up three individual event victories in the competition:
Dakari Charlton in the 200 meters,
Nate Watson in the 400 meters and the 4x400m relay. Charlton won the 200m in a fast time of 21.35 seconds, currently the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season. Watson crossed the finish line in the 400m in 47.52, the fourth-fastest mark in D2 thus far. The 4x400m relay of
Amar Williams,
Woyn Chatman, Watson and
Caden Williams won their face in 3:12.54.
Williams (47.82, PQ) and Chatman (47.84, PQ) also placed second and third, respectively, in the 400m, while A.J. Evans finished fourth in the 200m (21.60).
Drake Stapleton placed second in the shot put (53-1.75), while
Cole Sample finished third in the shot put (53-0) and fourth in the weight throw (55-0.75).
Jack Haukap placed third in the weight throw (59-11.75).
The Pitt State women secured individual event wins by
Olivia Lowrey in the 400m (56.63) and the 4x400m relay of
Maddie O'Neill,
Kinleigh Hall,
Mikah Edwards and Lowrey (3:51.95). Edwards also placed second in the 400m (56.95).
The trio of
Siby Yao (19-5.25),
Makayla Watson (19-0.75) and
Brooklyn Baker (19-0.5) placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump.
Abby Lasiter placed second in the shot put (45-1.5, PQ) and fourth in the weight throw (53-1.5).
Kinley Smith added a third-place finish in the triple jump (37-9.25).
