ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Both the Pittsburg State University men's and women's cross country teams recorded fifth place team finishes at the Lewis University Crossover Invitational Saturday (Oct. 11).
The Pitt State women compiled a team score of 220 points to place behind Chico State (100 pts), Lewis (140 pts), Biola (180 pts) and Colorado Mesa (180 pts).
Paige Mullen and
Hannah Gibson placed third and fifth, respectively, among individuals in the six-kilometer race. Mullen was clocked in 21 minutes 9.05 seconds while Gibson finished in 21:18.61.
Lorna Rae Pierce added a 23
rd place finish in 22:00.27.
Kaci Singer (85
th, 22:55.75) and
Phoebe Fletcher (105
th, 23:07.93) rounded out Pitt State's scored competitors.
In the men's action, Colorado Christian claimed the team title with a low score of 106 points. Saginaw Valley State finished second with 143 points, followed by Western Washington (163 pts), Chico State (198 pts) and Pitt State (201 pts).
Tyler Atkins (24:22.06),
Dylan Sprecker (24:23.36) and
Nathan Hinrichs (24:23.50) crossed the finish line in their eight-kilometer race in a 14
th through 16
th place pack.
Travis Sickles placed 30
th overall in 24:37.42, while
Jordan Kilonzo wrapped up the Gorillas scored positions.
The meet served as Pitt State's final tune-up before the 2025 MIAA Championships, which will be hosted by the Gorillas on Oct. 25 at Four Oaks Golf Course in Pittsburg.
