KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Senior middle blocker
Anna Dean was announced as the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season on Monday (Nov. 10).
Dean for the week averaged 2.50 total blocks to go with 2.88 kills for 4.25 points per set. The senior middle blocker became the first Gorilla since the rally score era began (2001) to finish four matches with 10 or more total blocks in the same season this past week.
The Oswego, Kan., native posted 14 total blocks against No. 7 Central Oklahoma (Nov. 7) in Edmond, finishing the match with a kill-block double-double after picking up 11 kills. Set a Hamilton Field House facility record (Opened in 1965) in the process for most assisted blocks in a match (13).
Against Arkansas - Fort Smith (Nov. 8), finished with six total blocks and 12 kills in a sweeping victory over the Lions.
Currently with 143 total blocks, Dean leads the MIAA and ranks third in Division II for total blocks and blocks per set (1.57). Among Pittsburg State single-season ranks her total block tally is the fifth-best in program history.
