LAWTON, Okla. - The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team picked up a comeback victory over the Western Colorado University Mountaineers, 70-67 in overtime on Saturday (Dec. 20) at the Aggie Gymnasium on the campus of Cameron University to conclude the Fairfield Inn & Suites Holiday Classic for both teams.

Leading the charge for the Gorillas (9-2) was Ja'Miya Brown with a career-high 36 points, going 13-of-22 from the field, 7-of-13 from three and 3-of-4 from free throws. Among Pittsburg State ranks, Brown's scoring tally and made three pointers are tied for the fourth most in a game. Harper Schreiner added 23 points and eight rebounds, going 3-of-6 from distance and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. As a team the Gorillas converted on 11 three pointers while scoring 17 points off turnovers and 12 second chance points.

Western Colorado (5-5) was led by Ivey Schmidt with 21 points and seven rebounds, Jayda Maves was the other Mountaineer to finish with double digit points with 20. As a team, WCU shot .458 from the field, .533 from three and scored 32 points in the paint.

Tied 29-29 at the half, Western Colorado held a 47-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter after a near buzzer beating three pointer from Penel Urquhart. In the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers extended the lead to 11 (52-41) following a reviewed shot clock violation that became a made three pointer from Micah Wicks with 5:54 remaining in regulation.

Pittsburg State began their response with a pair of Brown three pointers and a fast break and-one from Schreiner to make it 52-50 with 2:28 left. Brown gave the Gorillas their first lead of the game (54-53) since late in the second quarter with 32 seconds left in regulation on a second chance layup. In response, WCU knocked down a three pointer from Maves with 15 seconds remaining to retake the lead late. With nine seconds left Brown was fouled and put on the free throw line, where she converted on both of her attempts to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period the Gorillas jumped out to an early lead before the Mountaineers claimed a one point lead (64-63) with 47 seconds remaining. Schreiner gave the Gorillas the lead for good on the following possession with a three pointer and sank a pair of free throws to extend the lead to four (68-64) with 14 seconds remaining. Urquhart knocked down another three to make it a one point game but a pair of free throws from Schreiner with six seconds remaining gave the Gorillas a hard earned overtime win.
