PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams dominated the action at the PSU Invitational Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The two squads combined for 12 individual event victories and more than 40 NCAA qualifying marks in the meet.
For the women,
Kate Strader broke her own school record in the mile run for a second straight week. After running 4:52.31 in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational last week, Strader breezed to victory in 4:52.30 Saturday.
Kyla Davis posted a season best clearance of 14-0.5 in winning the pole vault. Additional first-place efforts included:
Haleigh Hadley in the high jump (5-9.25, PQ);
Siby Yao in the long jump (18-11.25, PQ),
Lily Brown in the triple jump (39-7.25, PQ);
Kayvon Nubine in the 60m hurdles (8.34, PQ);
Maggie Salsbury in the 600 yard run (1:24.76); and the distance medley relay (
Marissa Dick,
Maddie O'Neill,
Claire Bruening, Strader), 11:55.76, PQ.
Other notable women's performances included
Paige Mullen posting the second fastest time in school history in the 3,000 meters. She placed second in the discipline Saturday in 9:46.30 (PQ). Additional second-place finishes:

Auna Childress, LJ, 18-10.75, PQ;

Olivia Lowrey, 400m, 56.66, PQ.
Nubine is ranked No. 2 in D2 this season in the 60mH, while Hadley and Wilson are tied for the third-best mark in D2 in the high jump this season. Davis also ranks No. 3 in the pole vault and Marquez climbed to No. 3 nationally in the 60mH.
The Pitt State men registered four individual event wins:
Cole Sample in the weight throw (60-6, PQ); A.J. Evans in the 60m (6.67, PQ);
Mason Strader in the mile (4:00.19, PQ); and the distance medley relay (
Dylan Sprecker,
Eli Gilmore,
Jordan Kilonzo, Strader), 9:51, 76, PQ.
Strader's time in the mile was just off his school record of 3:58.47 from 2022. Sprecker also posted the second-fastest time in program history in Saturday's race, finishing in 4:01.22. Strader is ranked No.4 and Sprecker No. 8 this season in the discipline.
Sample added a second-place showing in the shot put (53-7);
Brennan Boord placed second in the weight throw (60-0, PQ); D'Mitri Patton finished second in the long jump (23-6.75, PQ);
Daylin Williams placed second in the 60mH (7.78, PQ);
Dakari Charlton finished second in the 60m (6.70, PQ); and
Nate Watson placed second in the 400m (47.29, PQ). Williams' time in the 60mH is the fastest in D2 to date.
