PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field squads wrapped up a solid two days of competition in the 10th Annual Russ Jeweet Gorilla Indoor Classic Saturday (Feb. 15) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Pitt State women recorded six individual event victories Saturday, while the Gorillas men logged four first-place showings as well.
In the women's action,
Erica Schamel won the high jump with a season best clearance of 5 feet, 10 inches and
Kyla Davis won the pole vault with a season best effort of 14-2.5.
Auna Childress placed first in the triple jump (40-9.25);
Kate Strader won the 800 meters in 2:09.89; and
Paige Mullen won the mile in 4:54.48. The 4x400m relay of
Maddie O'Neill,
Jamiya Morgan,
Kinleigh Hall and
Olivia Lowrey also raced to victory in 3:41.87.
Other notable finishes included
Diandrenique Gaines placing second in the 60 meters (7.51);
Kayvon Nubine finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.44),
Isabelle Peters placing second in the pole vault (13-10.5); and
Makayla Pavelka finishing second in the triple jump (39-2.75).
In the men's action,
Nate Watson won the 400 meters in 46.48 seconds;
Cole Sample won the shot put (57-7); and
Tre Betts won the triple jump with a season-best mark of 51-2.25. The 4x400m relay of
Dapriest Hogans,
Woyn Chatman,
Caden Williams and Watson breezed to victory with a fast time of 3:07.80.
Gage Britton added a second-place finish in the pole vault (16-0.25); and
Daylin Williams also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (7.82).
