PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes combined to record 36 NCAA qualifying marks at the PSU "Almost Last Chance" Invitational Saturday (May 9) at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The meet served as a final qualifier for the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for May 21-23 at Emporia, Kan.
The Pitt State men logged 17 qualifying marks, including seven season-best performances. The day was highlighted by a pair of school record breaking performances:
Jack Haukap in the hammer throw and
Dylan Sprecker in the 800 meters. Haukap broke his own school record with a best mark of 233 feet, 4 inches, while Sprecker was clocked in 1 minute, 48.29 seconds.
Two other Gorillas ran below the previous school record time in the 800m:
Eli Gilmore (1:48.35) and
Caden Uthe (1:48.82).
Ilias Garcia also clocked a season best time of 10.19 seconds in the 100 meters;
Isaiah Webster hit a season best in the triple jump (49-9.25); and
Brennan Boord secured a personal best toss of 207-6 in the hammer throw.
The Pitt State men registered 19 qualifying marks and four season best performances:
Makayla Pavelka in the long jump (19-11.75);
Abby Lasiter in the hammer throw (188-9);
Rachel Wilson in the high jump (5-7.25); and the 4x100m relay (45.19).
Both Pitt State squads entered Saturday's action ranked No. 1 in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Ratings Index (TFRI). National qualifiers will be announced by the NCAA next week.
