PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team carried a lead into Championship Sunday and never looked back in cruising to the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The Gorillas claimed their ninth MIAA Outdoor Championship in the last 11 seasons by compiling 208 points and dominating the competition from start to finish in the three-day meet. Missouri Southern State University finished in a distant second place, 84.5 points behind Pitt State with 123.5 points.
The Gorillas claimed three individual event victories on Sunday and Pitt State scored points in 12 of 13 events on the final day of competition.
Lily Brown,
Breanne Peters and
Zyra Shivers captured MIAA crowns on the day. Brown won the triple jump with a personal best mark of 41 feet, 3.25 inches. Peters rallied to win the pole vault by clearing a personal best 14-1; and Shivers raced to the finish line in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.40 seconds.
The Gorillas combined to score 78 points between the triple jump, pole vault and 100m hurdles. Brown led a 1-2-3-4 charge in the triple jump, followed by
Alexa Binkley (409-2.75),
Makayla Pavelka (40-0) and
Kinley Smith (39-0).
Isabelle Peters (3
rd, 13-8.5),
Cannon Booker (4
th, 13-8.5),
Eva Williams (5
th, 13-4.75) and
Quincey Turner (8
th, 12-2.75) helped total 25 points in the pole vault.
Kayvon Nubine (13.54) and
Blakelee Winn (13.70) posted second and third-place finishes in the 100m hurdles.
In field events, Alycia Cousens placed fourth in the javelin (156-2) and
Abby Lasiter finished sixth in the shot put (45-4.5).
On the track, the Gorillas got MIAA runner-up finishes by
Lorna Rae Pierce in the 5,000 meters (17:25.93) and the 4x400m relay of
Nikole Cozort,
Isabel Abdouch,
Kinleigh Hall and
Mikah Edwards (3:37.88). The 4x400m relay set a new school record with their fast time.
Edwards placed third in the open 400 meters (53.73), while Hall (54.96) and Abdouch (55.37) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Kiara Brown added a third-place effort in the 200 meters (23.47) and a fourth-place showing in the 100 meters (11.69), while
Jakayla Morgan placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.93). Abdouch, Brown, Cozort and Winn raced to a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay (45.27).
The Pitt State women completed the sweep of MIAA crowns for the 2025-26 academic year after claiming MIAA Championships in cross country and indoor track & field.
