WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri baseball team posted an 11-6 victory over Pittsburg State University in the series opener Friday (Feb. 28) at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The No. 4 ranked Mules (10-2, 4-0 MIAA) scored three runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings. The No. 20 ranked Gorillas (10-2, 2-2 MIAA) were tied with UCM, at 4-4, after three innings of play before the Mules pulled away.
Alex Rodgers and
Rickey Sanchez each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Pitt State's 10-hit attack in the game. Rodgers doubled and scored three runs, while Sanchez tripled and scored twice.
Starter Maddox Thonrton (3-1) suffered his first loss of the young season. Thornton allowed seven runs in 4.2 innings of work.
Pitt State and UCM will resume the series with a 2 p.m. (CST) game Saturday (Mar. 1).
