CLAREMORE, Okla. --
Dagen Brewer smacked a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 6-4 win over Rogers State University in the MIAA series opener Friday (Apr. 11).
The Gorillas (28-7, 17-7 MIAA) posted their 10th straight win by beating the Hillcats (21-14, 11-12 MIAA) at RCB Bank Sports Complex.
Pitt State jumped out to a 4-1 lead before RSU got a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth frame to pull even at 4-4.
Drew Bugner went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI to help spark the Pitt State offense. He doubled and hit a solo home run in the third inning of the contest. Brewer also went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the contest.
Cooper Crouch (2-1) earned the win in relief for the Gorillas, working two hitless innings to close out the game. Starter
Kolby Dougan limited the Hillcats to two hits in 4.0 innings of work and registered five strikeouts.
The two squads will resume the series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
