PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University head women's basketball coach
Amanda Davied has been named the 2025 Kansas Four Year College Coach of the Year by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA).
Davied guided the Gorillas to a program best 33-4 overall record during the 2024-25 season and Pitt State's first trip to the NCAA Division II Final Four. The Gorillas posted an 18-1 record to claim the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) regular season title and Pitt State swept its way through the 2024-25 MIAA Postseason Tournament as well.

The Gorillas earned their third straight berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament under Davied as Pitt State hosted the Central Regional at John Lance Arena. The Gorillas secured the regional crown, and the program's third trip to the NCAA-II Elite Eight, by posting wins over Harding (87-75), defending national champion Minnesota State (94-91) and Southwest Minnesota State (85-82).

Pitt State knocked off perennial power Lubbock Christian (66-55) in the first round of the Elite Eight at Pittsburgh, Pa., before falling in a nail biter, 68-61, to eventual national champion Grand Valley State in the national semifinals.

The Gorillas finished the season ranked No. 2 in the final WBCA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, the program's highest national ranking.
Davied has compiled a 148-62 (.705) record in seven seasons as Pitt State's head coach. She was voted the 2024-25 MIAA Coach of the Year; and Davied has led the Gorillas to four trips to the NCAA-II National Tournament.

Davied guided her alma mater to a berth in the 2018-19 NCAA Division II National Tournament in her debut season, becoming the first Pitt State head coach in program history to enjoy a 20-win season in year one of their tenure (21-9). She led the Gorillas to a 17-11 overall record in 2019-20;Â a 14-9 mark in the Covid-19 abbreviated 2020-21 campaign; and a 16-13 record in 2021-22.

In 2022-23, Davied guided the Gorillas back to the NCAA-II National Tournament, reaching the semifinals of the Central Regional during a 23-8 campaign. In 2023-24, the Gorillas claimed the MIAA Postseason Tournament crown for the first time in program history and Pitt State made a repeat trip to the NCAA-II National Tournament, finishing the year with a 24-8 overall record.

Davied, who served the previous 14 seasons as the assistant coach for her alma mater, replaced her former mentor, Lane Lord. Lord was named the 2017-18 KBCA Four Year College Coach of the Year before departing Pitt State for NCAA Division I University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Davied served as the team's recruiting coordinator and was highly involved in all aspects of the administration of the women's basketball program while serving as the staff's top assistant.

During her tenure on the Pitt State staff (2004-present), the Gorillas have compiled a 430-222 overall record (.660), capturing MIAA regular season titles in 2016-17 and 2024-25, MIAA Tournament title in 2023-24 and 2024-25 and making eight trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament (2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2018-19, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25) including all three of the program's Elite Eight appearances (2011-12, 2015-16, 2024-25).

Davied began her coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Gorilla women's basketball program in the 2003-04 season, after completing a decorated playing career for Pitt State the previous season. She was hired as a full-time assistant in July 2004 by former head coach Steve High and remained to serve as the top assistant on Lord's staff when he took over the program in April 2007.

The Farlington, Kan., native scored 1,299 points in 109 career games for the Gorillas between 2000-03, finishing her career as the school's ninth-leading all-time scorer. She also set Pitt State records for career assists (553) and career free throw percentage (.844, 313-for-371). Davied was inducted into the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame as a player with the Class of 2024.
