Five Gorillas Claim Academic All-America® Honors

AUSTIN, Texas — Five members of the Pittsburg State University women's cross country/track & field program garnered Academic All-America® honors from the College Sports Communicators today (July 15).

Senior Kyla Davis was selected to the first-team Academic All-America
® squad, while graduate student Erica Schamel was tabbed to the second-team Academic All-America® squad. Senior Kate Strader and redshirt juniors Isabelle Peters and Blakelee Winn claimed third-team Academic All-America® honors.

Davis has a 3.92 grade-point-average as an interior design major. The Yukon, Okla., native finished her career as a five-time All-American in the pole vault and a two-time national champion in the discipline. She claimed a national runner-up finish at the 2025 NCAA II Indoor National Championships in March.  This is the first time Davis has earned Academic All-America® honors.

Schamel, who has a 3.80 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership, wrapped up her decorated career by finish as the national runner-up in the high jump at the 2025 NCAA-II Indoor National Championships. The Cedar Hill, Mo., native finished her career as a five-time All-American and captured a national championship in the high jump in 2024. She also earned third-team Academic All-America® honors in 2023-24.

Strader carried a 3.88 GPA as an elementary education major. The Mound City, Kan. native claimed All-America three times in 2025, helping the Gorillas' distance medley relay to a national runner-up finish, placing sixth in the mile and third in the 1,500 meters. This is the first time Strader has earned Academic All-America® honors.

Peters currently has a 4.00 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership. The Lindsborg, Kan., native graduated from PSU with a 3.88 GPA in physical education. She finished as the national runner-up in the pole vault at the 2025 NCAA-II Outdoor National Championships and she's a four-time All-American in the discipline. This is the first time Peters has earned Academic All-America® honors.

Winn has a 3.73 GPA as an exercise science major. The Pea Ridge, Ark., native captured the national championship in the heptathlon at the 2025 NCAA-II Outdoor National Championships. The versatile athlete is a nine-time All-American. She also earned second-team Academic All-America® honors in 2023-24.
