Pitt State Men & Women Named USTFCCCA Scholar Teams of the Year

NEW ORLEANS — The Pittsburg State University men's track & field program swept the indoor and outdoor NCAA Division II Scholar Athlete Team of the Year honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday (July 21), and the women's track and field program was named the indoor Scholar Athlete Team of the Year.

The Gorilla men, who maintained a 3.09 cumulative GPA, won the team title at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships at Indianapolis, Ind., and Pitt State claimed its fourth straight outdoor crown at the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships at Pueblo, Calif., in May.

This is the fourth time in program history that Pittsburg State has been named NCAA DII Men's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Team of the Year, adding to its honors from 2018, 2023, and 2024.

The Pitt State women also claimed the team title at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March. The Gorillas maintain a 3.608 cumulative GPA.

This is the first time in program history that Pittsburg State has been named NCAA DII Women's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Team of the Year. The Gorillas have twice been named National Women's Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year in 2016 and 2024.

In all, 12 Pitt State men and 28 Pitt State women received National Scholar Athlete recognition from the USTFCCCA. The men's honorees include:  Brennan Boord, Jack Haukup, Maddox Johnson, Hunter Jones, Matthew Oglesby, Chase Poague, Victor Smith, Dylan Sprecker, Drake Stapleton, Mason Strader, Caden Uthe and Nate Watson. The women's honorees include:  Brooklyn Baker, Cannon Booker, Lily Brown, Claire Bruening, Auna Childress, Kyla Davis, Marissa Dick, Makyna Faust, Hannah Gibson, Haleigh Hadley, Abby Lasiter, Haila Leake, Taniya Looney, Olivia Lowrey, Jamiya Morgan, Paige Mullen, Makayla Pavelka, Isabelle Peters, Payton Phillips, Lorna Rae Pierce, Gracie Riner, Maggie Salsbury, Erica Schamel, Kinley Smith, Shelby Sogaard, Kate Strader, Quincey Turner and Blakelee Winn.

Scholar Athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.00 scale through the end of the semester of competition and must have completed at least 24 semester hours through the end of the semester of competition at the institution. The student-athlete must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for either the indoor season or outdoor season.
