EDMOND, Okla. - The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team delivered a lopsided 84-56 victory to end the weekend on the road against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday (Jan. 17) at Hamilton Field House.
As a team, Pittsburg State (14-3, 7-1 MIAA) went 14-of-27 from three point range (.519) and shot .492 from the field. The Gorillas held an advantage in bench points (35-21), points off turnovers (13-9) and points in the paint (30-26) over Central Oklahoma (7-10, 2-6 MIAA).
Marin Adams led Pittsburg State with 14 points and six assists as
Cambrie Phillips (13),
Kaycee McCumber (12) and
Harper Schreiner (10) rounded out the members of the team to finish in double figures for points. McCumber notched her fourth double-double of the season and in back-to-back games with a game-high 11 boards in 18 minutes of action.
UCO was led by Kaitlyn McCarn with 11 points as Bobbie Fouquet was the other Broncho to finish the game in double-digits for points with 10. Jerney Bennett, the Division II leader for blocks, swatted three shots and put up eight points in 20 minutes.
The Gorillas led after the first 10 minutes of action, 18-10 and then caught fire from behind the arc in the second quarter, going 7-of-10 from distance to key a 27-point quarter and head into the intermission up 45-24. Pitt State scored 25 points in the third quarter after going 10-of-15 from the field and knocking down a pair of three pointers en route to cruising to an 84-56 win on the road.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be a return to John Lance Arena on Saturday (Jan. 24) to host the Missouri Southern State University Lions in a battle of teams tied atop the MIAA standings. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m. (CST).Â
