KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three Pittsburg State University indoor track & field athletes – two men and one woman – have earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday (Jan. 27).
For the men, sprinter
Caden Williams garnered Track Athlete of the Week and jumper
Xavier Byers secured Field Athlete of the Week. Redshirt senior
Isabelle Peters received women's Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
Williams shattered the Pitt State record time in winning the 600-yard run at the Rumble in the Jungle D2 Invitational last Friday (Jan. 23) at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The junior from Katy, Texas was clocked in 1 minute, 10.00 seconds in the race. Williams also helped 4x400m relay set a meet record with a fast time of 3:08.95 Friday. The Pitt State relay currently is ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II.
Byers posted the fourth-best mark in NCAA Division II this season with his winning clearance of 7 feet, 0.5 inches at the Rumble in the Jungle Invite. The freshman from Kansas City, Mo., also posted the third-best mark in Pitt State history with his effort in the discipline.
Peters recorded the second-best mark in Division II this season with her winning clearance of 13 feet, 9.75 inches Friday. The Lindsborg, Kan. native is a five-time All-America performer in the discipline.
