No. 23 Gorillas Ride Strong Pitching Performances In Wins Over TSU, CSP

SHAWNEE, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up wins 18 and 19 on the season with back-to-back shutout performances on the first day of the Top Gun Invite on Friday (Feb. 27) at the Mid America Sports Complex.

PSU (19-0) beat Truman State (3-14) in five innings, 15-0. Ava Laurent (7-0) went 4.0 innings for the win as Erica Schetz wrapped up the game with a shutout inning. Sailor Hall led the team with three RBI and alongside Trista Peterson hit solo home runs in the game. Kyleigh Lamont, Kadyn Trochim, Bailey Haselhorst and Peterson finished with multiple runs driven in. Heather Arnett led the team with three runs scored as Hall and Peterson each finished with two runs scored.

To end the day, Pitt State beat Concordia - St. Paul, 3-0 with a complete game shutout performance from Emma Crabb in the circle. Crabb (6-0) struck out nine CSP hitters while only allowing two hits and one walk. Trochim got the Gorillas on the board in the third inning of a two-run double to right center, scoring Arnett and Alleyna Rushing. Lexi Davis provided a sacrifice fly to score Hall in the fourth to account for the 3-0 final scoreline.

On Saturday (Feb. 28) Pittsburg State is scheduled to play Rockurst at 2:40 p.m. (CST) before ending the Top Gun Invite at 5:00 p.m. against Winona State. Games will be held at the Mid America Sports Complex.
