EDMOND, Okla. -- The No. 16 ranked Pittsburg State University baseball team continued its torrid pace to the start of the 2026 campaign with another lopsided victory Sunday (Feb. 8). The Gorillas completed a four-day, four-game sweep of the competition in the Edmond First Pitch Classic with an 18-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
The Gorillas improved to 7-0 on the young season, marking the second straight year Pitt State has opened up with seven consecutive wins. The 2025 Gorillas posted a program-best 9-0 start to the year en route to a school record 42 wins. Pitt State outscored its opponents, 68-6, over the four-game tournament action. The Gorillas have outscored their first seven opponents, 106-12.
On Sunday, Pitt State struck for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to grab firm control of the contest against SEOSUÂ (2-3). The Gorillas tacked on six runs in the third inning and added three more in the fifth on an eventual run-rule shortened seven-inning affair.
Pitt State batters pounded out five extra-base hits among a 17-hit attack, including
Jaron Cotton's three-run home run in the fifth frame.
Andrew Branson and
Cooper Harris each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Branson drove in three runs and Harris had a double and two RBI.
Eric Bacon went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Dagen Brewer extended his school record hitting streak to 27 games. He collected a pair of his and drove in three runs.
Landin Midgett also knocked in three runs to raise his season RBI total to a team-leading 21 (3.0 pg).
Elijah Seitz (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, tossing 3.0 hitless innings and registering three strikeouts. He tossed just 38 pitches and exited the game with a 15-0 lead.
Cason Long allowed one run in 2.0 innings of work, while relievers Cross Down and
Ethan Froud each posted scoreless innings for the Gorillas.
Pitt State will make its home debut next Friday (Feb. 13) by opening a three-game series against Maryville University at Al Ortolani Field.
