PITTSBURG — The 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships open Friday (Mar. 13) at the Virginia Beach (Va.) Sports Center and runs through Saturday (Mar. 14).
Friday's action gets under way at 9 a.m. (CDT) with the start of the men's heptathlon competition. Open events begin at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the women's pentathlon begins at 9 a.m. and the culmination of the heptathlon starts at 10 a.m. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and the championships wrap up later that evening with the women's 4x400m relay slated as the last event at 6 p.m.
Pittsburg State is the three-time defending NCAA Division II Indoor Men's Track & Field National Champion. Last year, the Gorillas shot into the lead in the team standings early in the day Saturday and rode that momentum to victory at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Pitt State compiled 76 points to claim the program's fourth overall NCAA Indoor National Championship (2018, 2023, 2024, 2025). Grand Valley State University finished as the national runner-up with 61.5 points and Colorado School of Mines placed a distant third with 36 points.
Pitt State is the No. 1 ranked men's team in the USTFCCCA National Ratings Index (TFRI) entering the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships. Grand Valley State is ranked second, followed by Wingate, Adams State and Northwest Missouri.
The Pitt State women enjoyed a weekend for the history books last year as the Gorillas captured the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship. Pitt State compiled 63 points in the three-day meet to claim the program's third all-time national championship, the first indoor national crown. Minnesota State University secured the national runner-up finish with 58 points and Grand Valley State University placed third with 40 points.
Pitt State hoisted its first-ever indoor crown after finishing as the national runner-up in 2024, the program's previous benchmark season. The Gorillas finished fourth overall in both 2016 and 2017.
The Gorillas are the No. 1 ranked women's team entering the national championships. West Texas A&M, Grand Valley State, Adams State and Colorado Mines round out the women's top five programs.

For the Pitt State men, redshirt freshman sprinter
Griouard Weddington enters the national meet ranked No. 1 in his discipline as does the Gorillas 4x400m relay.
Weddington brings the all-time fastest time in D2 history into the 60m, after being clocked in 6.54 seconds at the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships last weekend. The 4x400m relay of

Nate Watson also clocked the nation's leading time (3:07.53) last weekend.

Ilias Garcia qualified No. 2 in the 60m in 6.59 seconds, while senior
Kemarri Stewart qualified 16
th in the short sprint (6.70).
In addition to his 60m time, Weddington also qualified seventh in the 200 meters (21.02).
Caden Williams (3
