KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University track & field coaching staff was named both the men's and women's MIAA Coaching Staff of the Year in the 2025-26 indoor track & field season.
The Gorillas once again swept the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Pitt State hosted this year's indoor championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center, February 27-March 1 in Pittsburg. The Gorillas took home both men's and women's titles and combined for 16 individual MIAA champions, four MIAA champion relay teams, and 39 All-MIAA performances.
The Pitt State men totaled a record-breaking 225 team points to beat the men's indoor runner-up by 110 points. The title is the Gorilla men's sixth consecutive indoor championship. The Pitt State women won the 2026 championship with 200 points to claim their fifth straight indoor title.
Leading the Gorillas is head coach Kyle Rutledge and associate head coach/meet director Brian Mantooth. Assisting Rutledge and Mantooth is Ben Barrows, head men's and women's cross country coach, and assistant coaches Jason Crow and Jesse Miller. The staff is also accompanied by three graduate assistants: Chandler Barnett, Zach Chandler and Dalton Gleeson.
This is Pitt State's fourth consecutive Coaching Staff of the Year honor on the men's side and the third straight on the women's side. In total, the Pitt State coaching staff has been honored as the MIAA Coaching Staff of the Year 17 times in the last four years between men's and women's cross country and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.
The Gorillas will continue their 2026 indoor seasons at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted March 13-14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Pittsburg State men and women are both the reigning national champions, while the men have won the last three consecutive indoor national titles.
