PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 5-1 game with an eight-run fifth inning to pull away for a 13-1 run-rule win over Rogers State University Saturday (Apr. 25) at Al Ortolani Field.
The No. 9/7 Gorillas pulled within one game of the MIAA-leading Hillcats in the loss column with the win. Pitt State (36-8, 23-8) and No. 6/5 Rogers State (37-9, 25-7 MIAA) will wrap up the three-game series with a Noon game Sunday (Apr. 26). The game, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., was pushed up an hour due to Sunday's weather forecast.

Zach Voss pitched into the seventh inning to pick up his ninth win of the season. Voss (9-2) limited the Hillcats to three hits in 6.1 innings of work. He issued four walks and registered two strikeouts.
The Pitt State offense struck for two runs in the first inning and three more in the third frame, before breaking the game wide open two innings later.

Kam Koester each collected two hits in the game. McNealy, Webb and
Cooper Wesslund tallied two RBI each. McNealy swiped a pair of bases to set the Pitt State single season record with 40 stolen bases. He passed former record holder Jeff Deao, who collected 39 stolen bases in 2007.
