No. 5 Gorillas Take Game One From Ichabods, 10-7

TOPEKA -- Seth Dandridge smacked a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to help No. 5 Pittsburg State University erase a 7-4 deficit and pull ahead on the way to a 10-7 victory over the Washburn University baseball team Thursday (Apr. 30) at Falley Field at Steven Anson Park.

The Gorillas (39-8, 26-8 MIAA) remained in first place in the MIAA standings thanks to the win with two games remaining in the regular season. Washburn slipped to 20-28 overall (16-18 MIAA). The two squads will resume the three-game series with a 4 p.m. (CDT) game Friday (May 1).

Dagen Brewer unloaded a pair of home runs in the contest - a solo blast in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in in the sixth. With his second round tripper, Brewer set the Pitt State career home run record with 47, passing Andrew Vogelbaugh who slugged 46 HRs over four seasons from 2015-18.

Ricardo Hernandez (1-0) picked up his first win of the season. He limited the Ichabods to two hits over 2.1 innings of relief work. Cason Long nailed down the win by following Hernandez with 3.0 innings of one-hit work, fanning four batters along the way.

Eric Bacon went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI. Landon Bruce also had two hits in three plate appearances and scored twice.
